Lao Tzu (usually translated as “Old Master”; also rendered as Lao Tze or Laozi) was an ancient Chinese writer and philosopher, popular for writing the book called Tao Te Ching. He is the father of philosophical Taoism (a philosophy that advocates living a simple life) and is considered a deity in many traditional Chinese religions.
