Historical Cavite

One of the most well Cavite tourist spots and Philippine historical sites is Corregidor Island, situated at the mouth of Manila Bay but considered to be part of Cavite province. It is historically notable as a fortified island that was used in World War II and is now a well-known tourist destination and memorial place. During the war, the island was the location of battles between Filipino and American soldiers against Japanese invaders. Several historic buildings, including a lighthouse, battery, barracks, and the Pacific War Memorial, can be found on the island.

There are also notable museums in Cavite such as the Aguinaldo National Shrine and Museum and Museo De La Salle. Here you can find historical artifacts and the like which give us a reminder of what we’ve been through as a country.

Speaking of history, the Spanish Colonial Period also left us with numerous beautiful historical churches some of which are in Cavite such as San Roque Parish Church, the oldest church in the province; Imus Cathedral; Nuestra Señora de la Soledad de Porta Vaga – in Bacoor, known for its Spanish-era architecture and a wooden cross that is said to be more than 300 years old; and St. Dominic de Guzman Parish Church.

Cavite is also a place for nature lovers. If you love hiking, you may want to try reaching the summit of Mt. Pico De Loro, Mt. Buntis, or Mt. Nagpatong – which are all part of the Maragondon Mountain Range. If you love swimming, you may visit the different beach resorts in Ternate. Some resorts in Maragondon also offer swimming or camping by the river. There are also several eco farms and natural spas in Tagaytay and Alfonso that you can also try. Or simply just enjoy the cool air and the site seeing in Tagaytay. Imus is known for its Longanissa and of course Rosario for its tinapang Salinas. Tagaytay City, the country’s second summer capital, is home to the best bulalo in the country. Some notable celebrations are the Pahimis or coffee festival in Amadeo in April; the Regada or Water Festival in Cavite City in June; the Maytinis Christmas Celebration in Kawit every December 24; the Valenciana Festival in General Trias; and the Tinapa Festival in Rosario.
