UNESCO states that this site is a portion of the “greatest expanse of windblown sand on Earth.” With how vast the desert landscape is, its orange, yellow, and red hues are striking to the eyes. Some call ‘Uruq Bani Ma’arid a “sea of sand” whose color highlights the wildlife that inhabit the site, such as the Arabian Oryx, a rare species of antelope.

Socotra Archipelago

The Socotra Archipelago is is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites that is rich with biodiversity, and it is notable as well that much of its biodiversity can only be found in this archipelago. According to UNESCO, 90% of the reptile species and 37% of the plan species found in the Socotra Archipelago exist only in this site. Moreover, the site is inhabited by Socotra dragon trees, otherwise known as dragon blood trees, which are large dome-shaped trees that tower over the lands of the archipelago.

Okavango Delta

Okavango Delta is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites that is a delta, which is a lowland whose topography possesses branches of river streams that eventually reach the sea. However, the Okavango Delta’s branching out of river streams are observed to not reach any ocean at all.
