Get Your Home Ready For Back To School
by Anna Lucas
Summer is almost over. It’s now time to pack away the goggles and the swimsuits, and bring out the bags and the uniforms. Gone will be the days of rest and relaxation. Soon, your home in Ponticelli will be bustling and buzzing at the wee hours of the morning as you deal with your morning school routine.
As the day of going back-to-school is nearing, here are suggestions on what you should do to be more prepared for the coming season.
CLEAN AND DECLUTTER
The designated study area in your home in Crown Asia Cavite was probably converted into a play area during the summer. Before the school starts, it is time to bring it back to being a conducive study room. Get the space ready for the new season. Take out the old and bring in the new. Donate old books. Throw away clutter. Get new décors to liven the room. You may also re-arrange the furniture to change the look and make it more exciting for your child.
ORGANIZE AND REUSE
The school bags, school shoes and other school supplies are probably gathering up dusts in the closets during the summer. It is time to bring them out and check their conditions before heading out to shop for school supplies. Determine what you need to replace and what you need to replenish. Crayons and pencils normally are still good sizes at the end of the school year and may be reused for another year. Bags can last between 2 to 5 years, while usability of shoes vary depending on how much your kids “abuse” them.
Establish also their proper places at home. Designate a spot where your kids will place permission slips and other school correspondences. This is to ensure that you will not miss any letters from their teachers, and will also lessen the paper clutter once school starts.
It is amazing how your kids can drastically change their routines over the summer. Before going back to school, it is best to have your kids practice their daily routines. Wake them up early, have them eat breakfast and let them take a bath as if they will be going to school already. This is to help them readjust to their school routines.
If you have a new class schedule, doing a dry run will also help you determine how much time you need to be able to get to school in time. Of course, do not forget to factor in the dreaded traffic.
RE-ESTABLISH AFTER-SCHOOL RULES
Kids memories can be short, especially when it comes to your after-school rules. Remind your kids about their TV/Gadget time, study time, bedtime, and all your other rules at home. You can choose just have a simple talk with them to remind them. Or you can unleash your creativity by making a poster or a bulletin board for all the after-school rules.
Back-to-school need not be a stressful time for both you and your children. With preparation and organization, your whole family can have a smooth transition once the school starts. You can even set the tone to make school exciting for your loved ones.
